(Clauses of Contrast)
- although,
- even though или
- though.
- Mrs. Brown knew very little German although (even though, though) she had lived in Munich all her life.
- Though (Although) [he was] hard working, Tom failed the examination. –
- Despite working hard, Tom failed the examination. –
Но в случае, если требуется после союза употребить придаточное предложение, в котором было бы подлежащее и сказуемое, Вам необходимо добавить the fact that к despite или in spite of.
- Mary got into a car crash. However (Nevertheless), she was not seriously injured. –
- While (whereas) употребляются в значении «тогда как…»: John is brilliant at French, while (whereas) his sister is good at Math and Biology.
- He was poor yet very generous. –
- Sue worked slowly yet effectively. –
- He loved animals very much. Still, he hated pigs. –
- Uwe can’t play football. On the other hand, he is very good at chess. –
